In a flash, my 2 year term has come to an end. It has been quite a ride and it was truly a very enriching and rewarding experience. There was much optimism and excitement at the start of 2022 realizing that I would be the one to lead the Academy in transitioning from the stringent restrictions of the COVID pandemic to life under the so-called new normal. With the uncertainties of the times still looming largely, I was determined to jumpstart the organization and pursue our vision to be the exemplary medical society, recognized locally and internationally, as the leading professional development organization committed to the provision of the highest standards of eye care.

But a leader can only go as far as his constituents take him. Plans without action remain as mere pipe dreams. And action without passion becomes a heavy chore. I wish to thank everyone who generously and wholeheartedly lent their time and talents to see our goals and plans come into fruition. From the PAO officers, Executive Council and Secretariat to the Chapter and Subspecialty societies and interest groups. From the members who worked in the various standing and adhoc committees of the Academy to the editors and contributors of the Philippine Journal of Ophthalmology and EFocal Point. From the organizers, speakers and moderators of the 6th AOS Congress and the Annual and Midyear Meetings to those of LEAP and other webinars and postgraduate courses organized by the different institutions and organizations.

In parting, I am deeply grateful for having been given the rare opportunity to lead the Academy. Admittedly, I was a relatively unknown personality, and a greenhorn in the Executive Council when I became President 2 years ago. I hope I have repaid your trust and lived up to your expectations and was able to contribute in my humble capacity towards the growth and advancement of the PAO.
