APSOPRS 2024 CONGRESS IN SEOUL

The snowy South Korean capital welcomed delegates of the Asia Pacific Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery meeting, which was held in conjunction with the 132nd annual convention of the Korean Ophthalmological Society last November 29 to December 1, 2024, at the COEX Convention Center. The international meeting was well-attended by twenty-two representatives from Philippines; and it was a great opportunity to continue building a strong culture, as well as developing rapport and connecting with many oculoplastics colleagues the world over. This year’s theme: “Seek Excellence in OcULoplatics” which is wordplay on the acronym SEOUL, is an invitation to continue the commitment to advance the standards of care and surgical innovation in the oculoplastics community.
It was a joyous and proud moment when three of our very own PSOPRS members: Dr. Yvette Marie Santiago-Gatmaitan (Secretary) alongside Drs. Felice Katrina Ranche and Honeylen Maryl Teo (Directors) were announced as part of the APSOPRS 2024 roster of elected officers. A massive congratulations to all!
The scientific programs were streamlined with very relevant, cutting-edge research. Dr. Felice Katrina Rache shared her insights on the Multidisciplinary Management of Carotid-Cavernous Fistulas and Dr. Yvette Marie Santiago brought a revival on the Modified Bick’s Procedure during her discussion on Treatment of Lower Eyelid Malpositions.
During the session on Expanding Multiverses in Trauma and Anophthalmic Socket, Dr. Reynaldo Javate conveyed his expert experience on porous orbital implants during his talk on the Ideal Orbital Implant. Dr. Mary Rose Pe Yan also expressed her viewpoints concerning Anophthalmic Patients wearing Ocular Prosthesis.
Our Young APSOPRS members also made their mark on the scientific world and presented their most recent work. We were proud to listen to Dr. Emmanuel Lee Boniao from Amai Pakpak Medical Center, on his insights on Geometric Morphometric Analysis of the Lacrimal Punctum: Age and Sex Variations in Normal Populations. Dr. Dave Oyas from Cebu South Medical Center also impressed us on his take on Diagnostic Challenges in Primary Orbital Apex Fungal Infection.
The APSOPRS 2024 congress was a truly fulfilling event, brimming with insightful scientific discussions and heartwarming reunions. Meetings like this continue to inspire the members to carry on their meaningful work. The APSOPRS remains committed to achieving its goals of advancing the science of oculoplastic surgery, leaving a positive impact and creating a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
